I began homeschooling my children in 2007. I had just recently moved to a new place and was ready to start everything fresh, the way the Lord had said to me. My children were enrolled in public school at the time, yet needed extra help in certain areas. When I shared my children’s needs with the school, I was told, “Oh they are fine. No need to worry.” However, I wasn’t worrying. I just wanted to give my children the necessary support they needed so that they wouldn’t feel as if they had failed or they were an underachiever.

It was during this time, that I believe the Lord was listening to my concerns and watching me. I then heard His voice say — HOMESCHOOL.

Now, understand, I had no prior knowledge as to what it meant to homeschool. I was a graduate of the public school system. However, I knew I heard God’s voice and I knew he was calling me to homeschool my children. Well, like with my ministry and women’s support group, I did not delay. I heard the Lord and I answered with a YES and began to move forward as a homeschool parent.

When I first began, I had no clue as to what I should be doing. I had my children start their day early, I had them get dressed by a certain time or they would miss breakfast, their curriculum for the day was all detailed and laid out; everything was so neat and perfect.

And that is when the Lord said, TRY AGAIN.

This time instead of getting in the ring listening to my opponent [the school system’s way of doing things], I sought the Lord and he showed me what I needed to do as well as instructed me. I must admit though, His way was so simple, that it looked as if I was being foolish. However, over time I learned, that God’s way is BEST and that he doesn’t want LESS for us.

Along the journey, he allowed me to meet other homeschool families. One of the families we met was one of my high school classmates. “T” has been homeschooling her children all their lives and she had much encouragement to share with me as well as some insights and tips on being relaxed and going with the flow.

Ten years later and 2 children added, I have become even more relaxed than when I first began homeschooling. This is the reason why I have decided to blog again. Well, that and the fact that the Lord told me to. I want to encourage you to be relaxed as you homeschool your child and for those of you who are thinking of doing so, I want to encourage you to do so. I hope I can be of assistance to anyone of you that may be in need of assistance, even if it is simply to have me pray with you/for you.

Be encouraged. Be inspired. Be who God created you to be.
